"The look, feel and function of natural teeth are restored"
Dental implants are one of the fastest growing services in the field of dentistry today. Patients who previously suffered from missing teeth, loose dentures and collapse of facial structures are now taking advantage of dental implants to solve these problems.
Dental implants essentially are artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed into the jawbone. Implants are placed using local anesthesia (freezing) in our office and when needed, oral sedation can be prescribed.
Implants are made up of pure titanium, the only metal that our body accepts and allows bone to grow in and around it. This process is known as osseointegration. Following the initial healing period in which the implant is left undisturbed underneath the gum tissue, it is uncovered and connected to a small post that serves as the foundation for the tooth or teeth that the implant will be supporting.
In most situations, a healing period of between 3 to 6 months is required before implants can be restored with the final restoration. A temporary appliance can usually be made to provide function and aesthetics during this period. After initial implant placement, regular follow-up visits are required to ensure that healing is progressing as we would like. Following final restoration of an implant, we recommend our patients to come for regular check-ups every 6-12 months. At these check-up appointments, the implants are inspected and examined to ensure that the supporting gum and bone remains healthy. X-rays are taken to examine the bone structure around the implant. Most modern implant systems report success rates of 85-95% over a 5-15 year period.
Healthy patients with good oral hygiene are great candidates for dental implants. Dr. Dhaliwal offers free consultations to all our patients whereby he provides patients with a clinical examination to assess the potential implant site to determine whether there is sufficient bone volume and gum thickness to allow placement of an implant. In more complex cases, specialized implant x-rays may be required.
Dental implants can cost more than other kinds of restorative procedures, so we discuss fees and insurance at the time of your consultation. Because there are many types of dental insurance plans and coverage for implants, we will be happy to assist you in obtaining any benefits to which you may entitled. The cost of dental implants varies between countries and offices and every patient has significantly different needs both surgically and restoratively, so giving a general estimate is no recommended. Dr. Dhaliwal will evaluate your area(s) of missing teeth and will develop a treatment plan that specifically pertains to you and an estimate will be generated at this time.
